Start with the forum, not the name. Constitutional petitions, tax references, company matters and appeals go to the High Court of Sindh, whose principal seat is in Karachi; ordinary civil suits, whatever their value, now start in the District Courts; family matters such as khula and custody go to the Family Courts; and Supreme Court appeals from Sindh are generally heard at the Supreme Court's Karachi Branch Registry, except taxation, customs and revenue matters. The Sindh Bar Council publishes an online verification database of enrolled advocates showing each advocate's registration number, whether the enrolment is for the High Court or the lower courts, and whether it is valid, suspended or removed. An advocate needs separate Supreme Court enrolment to appear before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
